well folks,, [08 Mar 2006|07:41pm]
today i finally managed to (re-) pass my driving theory test. it actually took three goes because of the stupid hazard perception bit (i never was much good at computer games), but its done! shame it cost over £60 all in though.

now for the practical - i honestly can't wait to get it all out of the way again. heres to being mobile again!

edit: actually, now that i think of it, do any of you know any good instructors? mine moved to coleraine and doesnt work in belfast anymore, and id rather use someone that somebody else could reccommend if possible. im going to have to take a couple of lessons to iron out my bad habits.

i cant remember if i ever linked to this before, but while i remember, little draggin' bear is one of my favourite things ever.

he is a paraplegic cat with a k'nex chariot to make up for his lack of hind legs. brilliant.

"well well", said the rocking chair / i was on tv once you know. [12 Feb 2006|08:23pm]
when i was eleven or twelve, i was in the junior school choir. [please be assured that this is nothing to do with my singing abilities, and more to do with needing 'things' to put on my record of achievement.]

one day, my name and about six others were called out in assembly to 'please come and see Miss Stanley in the music room at break time', and naturally i thought i was in some kind of trouble. turned out, dean friedman was coming to belfast and was going to feature on the Kelly show. this meant nothing to anyone else, but oddly enough, i did know who he was, seeing as how we had his 'well, well...' album on vinyl in the house and the cover was particularly memorable to a 12 year old (below).

anyway, he had this song he wanted to do, 'one day', and he had really wanted his daughter to sing it with him, but she couldnt make it and he needed a small group of children for to sing with him instead.

we were all 'wow, the kelly show! tv' and stuff, and one girl whose name i cant even remember now was told she got to sing the part of dean's daughter.

so we toddled on down to the ITV studio. as i remember ( cant check for sure because the utv site only archived the shows from 2000 onward), those anorexic twins who're both dead now (i think - ive been googling and googling and cant even get names. i know they existed!) and may mcfettridge were also on the show; was all underwhelmed.

sat about in the green room, drank coke, ate sweets, generally got nervous about going on the telly. then at the last minute, friedmans nine year old daughter hannah showed up, and we were all shoved away in the background. the poor girl whose name i cant remember who was meant to be singing her parts was gutted, and we were gutted for her.

(for those who are familiar with friedman and/or are interested in any way, he also played 'lucky stars'.)

so, the reason im even posting this is that that 'one day' often pops into my head unprompted and lodges itself in there for weeks at a time, and its now 11 years later. the song was truly dreadful; i have a link to prove it. as far as i can tell, that was the actual recording from the kelly show. that whiny wee american cow will haunt me forever.

park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me... [11 Feb 2006|07:53pm]
so, went to see Broken Social Scene last night in the mandela hall with jo and emli, and it was just class. really flipping good. it might be easy to dismiss them as indie twaddle, but they put on a really fucking good show.

kevin drew (thats him above) came into the crowd during the set to give us all some love. i got a big bear hug, as did almost everyone in the front third of the hall. a thoroughly good hug it was too; nice and firm. and sweaty.

went up to the sp'easy after, but didnt stay long because i had to get over to the house early anyway.

today me n peedy went to dfs and picked our sofa. originally, we were going to get his mums, but its just too damn big. ill stick a photo up later, cos its that important that you all see it.

anyway, thats it really.

in other, slightly more important news, peedy and i got the keys to our new house on tuesday. we have started to rip out the old kitchen, wallpaper and all the old stuff. getting stuck right in.

there is a small dog who lives next door who looks like an ewok. she is called Jill.

ill get some photos up as soon as i can be arsed :)

edit: actually, the dog is called Bubbles. dad misunderstood her owner, i think.

last night [28 Dec 2005|02:15pm]
last night we went to see corrigan in auntie annies. drinks in morrissons beforehand; that was the first time i had been in there since it was done up (out of the loop? me?!), and it was actually really nice.

annies was totally bunged. had a good night, and saw pretty much everyone in the world during the course of the night, which was fun.

what wasnt fun was leaving at about half twelve to get a taxi before everyone left, and not being able to get one foe like an hour and a half. we had the phones put down on us, laughed at, told we couldnt get picked up in the city centre etc etc until we ended up getting a lift from my brother. weird thing is, the roads werent busy or anything. i think all the taxi drivers had booked the same night off and there were only three working in the whole city.

word of the night: BRRRRRRR.

ill put up some photos later. really cant be arsed now.

edit: i just broke ANOTHER laptop. im the clumsiest person.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.

When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your LJ and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.

(and if you want, you could put in a real one too.)
